Job Description
Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for a Systems Engineer 3. The work will be done onsite in Mossville, Illinois. This is a long-term position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is up to $53/hour + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay).
Job Summary
The Systems Engineer 3 will support the development and integration of advanced automation and autonomy technologies for heavy-duty equipment and machinery. This role is responsible for translating customer and business requirements into system-level solutions, defining system architectures, and integrating hardware, software, sensors, and control systems. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams to develop innovative products that operate reliably in demanding real-world environments.
Key Responsibilities
• Translate customer and business requirements into detailed system requirements and maintain requirements traceability
• Define system architecture, interfaces, and integration strategies across machine subsystems
• Develop and integrate features spanning hardware, software, sensors, and control systems
• Create and manage FMEAs, technical documentation, and system validation activities
• Troubleshoot technical issues, manage technical risks, and collaborate with engineering, software, validation, and product support teams
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Robotics, Computer Science, or a related technical field
• 5+ years of engineering development experience in systems engineering, automation, robotics, or related industries
• Experience writing, managing, and tracking system requirements throughout the development lifecycle
• Strong understanding of integrating sensors, computing systems, software, and electronic control systems
• Experience reading and interpreting component drawings, wiring harness prints, and technical documentation
• Familiarity with software development processes and systems engineering methodologies
• Excellent communication, teamwork, analytical, and troubleshooting skills
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with robotics, remote-control systems, automation, or autonomous technologies
• Experience with CAN, Ethernet, CANape, Wireshark, or similar communication tools
• Experience with Azure DevOps, Git, debuggers, and software development toolchains
• Experience with ROS, perception systems, positioning sensors, and sensor calibration
• Knowledge of FMEA processes and electronic system failure modes
• Experience developing systems for mobile equipment, industrial machinery, agricultural equipment, mining equipment, or other off-highway applications
