Job Description

Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer 3 – Structural Analysis in Mossville, IL. The work will be done 100% onsite, first shift. This is a long-term position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is up to $46/hr + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay).
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Mechanical Engineer / Structural Analyst to perform advanced structural analysis and simulation for cooling and aftertreatment components and systems. This position will support both New Product Introduction (NPI) and Current Product Improvement (CPI) programs by evaluating structural integrity, vibration response, performance, fatigue, and service life. The engineer will develop and execute finite element models, interpret complex simulation results, and provide actionable recommendations to design and validation teams. The work involves challenging structural phenomena including vibration and forced response, material nonlinearities, complex geometries, and specialized materials.
Key Responsibilities
  • Create and execute Finite Element Analysis (FEA) models independently and in collaboration with external engineering/supplier teams.
  • Perform static, modal, vibration, transient dynamic, nonlinear, fracture, and fatigue simulations to evaluate structural integrity and service life.
  • Set up models and submit simulation jobs to high-performance computing environments while identifying and correcting model-quality issues.
  • Analyze simulation results and provide timely conclusions, recommendations, and engineering solutions to product design and development teams.
  • Develop an understanding of component mechanical capacity related to strength, fatigue, vibration, and structural performance.
  • Prepare technical reports documenting assumptions, models, methods, results, conclusions, and recommendations.
  • Collaborate closely with cooling, aftertreatment, design, simulation, and test-validation teams.
  • Participate in peer reviews and continuously improve structural-analysis methods, processes, tools, and simulation accuracy.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering field with 5–7 years of relevant experience; OR
  • Master's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with 2–4 years of relevant experience; OR
  • PhD in Mechanical Engineering or a related field with 1–2 years of relevant experience.
  • Industrial experience performing structural analysis, preferably involving static and/or dynamic analysis.
  • Strong understanding of dynamics, material properties, structural mechanics, and fatigue.
  • Experience performing structural simulations involving areas such as static loading, vibration, transient dynamics, boundary and material nonlinearities, fracture/fatigue life, bolted joints, and welded structures.
  • Hands-on experience with ABAQUS and HyperMesh.
  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, schematics, and technical reports.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, written communication, and verbal communication skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with machine dynamic simulation.
  • Experience with nonmetallic structural simulation, user-defined material behavior modeling, or component interaction modeling.
  • Experience with machine and structural design and validation.
  • Pro/E (Creo) skills sufficient to prepare geometry for finite element models.
  • Experience supporting structural analysis for complex mechanical systems, engines, heavy equipment, cooling systems, or aftertreatment systems.
  • Experience working with high-performance computing environments for engineering simulation.
Why This Role?
This position offers the opportunity to solve complex structural engineering problems involving vibration, fatigue, nonlinear materials, and challenging mechanical geometries. You will work closely with design and validation teams on both new-product and existing-product improvements while gaining exposure to sophisticated simulation methods and large-scale mechanical systems. Cullerton Group provides a professional environment with strong growth potential and the opportunity to contribute to high-impact engineering programs.
