Mechanical Engineer 2 – Shop Support (86183)
Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for a Mechanical Engineer 2 – Shop Support. The work will be done onsite, full-time in Lafayette, IN. This is a long-term 24-month position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is approximately $38/hr + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay).
Job Summary
Cullerton Group is seeking a Mechanical Engineer to provide hands-on shop support for air system components and related sub-systems. This role focuses on troubleshooting production issues, supporting continuous product improvement initiatives, and collaborating closely with manufacturing, suppliers, and design engineers. The engineer will work directly on the shop floor to investigate issues, develop solutions, and support implementation. This position is ideal for an engineer who enjoys fast-paced problem solving and close collaboration with technicians and cross-functional teams.
Key Responsibilities
• Provide engineering support for existing component families and sub-systems
• Investigate shop floor issues and lead root cause analysis efforts
• Develop and review corrective actions with design engineers and manufacturing teams
• Support continuous product improvement (CPI) and new product introduction (NPI) activities
• Conduct design reviews, inspections, and hands-on work with prototype or production components
Required Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Engineering Technology
• 1–3+ years of engineering experience (internship experience not accepted)
• Strong troubleshooting and problem-solving skills
• Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings and prints
• Strong verbal and written communication skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with 3D modeling tools such as Creo or similar software
• Component-level design experience with castings, fabrications, or molded parts
• Experience working directly with shop floor technicians and manufacturing teams
