Job Description
Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for an IT Software Engineer 5. The work will be done in a hybrid environment with preferred office locations in Chicago, IL; Dallas, TX; Peoria, IL; or Broomfield, CO, working onsite 2–3 days per week. Exceptional candidates who can start immediately may be considered for a fully remote arrangement. This is a 12-month long-term position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is up to $115/hour + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay).

The IT Software Engineer 5 will provide technical leadership for a large-scale eCommerce search platform that supports digital commerce and customer-facing applications. This role combines hands-on software engineering with architecture, mentoring, and strategic planning to deliver scalable, high-performance search solutions. The successful candidate will lead initiatives involving AI-powered search, cloud technologies, analytics, and modern search frameworks while collaborating with cross-functional engineering, product, and data science teams.

This role combines hands-on software engineering with architecture, mentoring, and strategic planning to deliver scalable, high-performance search solutions. The successful candidate will lead initiatives involving AI-powered search, cloud technologies, analytics, and modern search frameworks while collaborating with cross-functional engineering, product, and data science teams.
Key Responsibilities
- Define and execute the long-term technical strategy for a scalable, high-performance search platform.
- Lead the design, development, and optimization of advanced search capabilities, including NLP, vector search, and personalization.
- Build and optimize low-latency cloud-based APIs while leveraging analytics and KPIs to improve search relevance and performance.
- Mentor software engineers through technical reviews, best practices, and architectural guidance.
- Collaborate with product managers, data scientists, and engineering teams to deliver innovative search experiences aligned with business objectives.
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science or a related field.
- 10+ years of software engineering experience, including at least 7 years focused on search engineering.
- 3+ years of technical leadership experience.
- Strong experience with modern search technologies and platforms such as Coveo, Vertex AI Search, or Vertex AI Search for Commerce.
- Experience building low-latency APIs using AWS and memory-storage technologies.
- Strong knowledge of cloud platforms such as AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.
- Experience with GitHub, Agile development methodologies, and global software development teams.
- Excellent communication, leadership, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience implementing AI-powered search solutions, including natural language processing (NLP), vector search, and personalization.
- Experience with A/B testing frameworks and search performance analytics.
- Experience working with engineering, manufacturing, or industrial product data.
- Experience leading enterprise-scale eCommerce search initiatives.
- Experience supporting heavy equipment or industrial manufacturing environments.
