Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for an IT Software Engineer 4 – Senior SDET / Test Automation Engineer. The work will be done in a hybrid environment in Chicago, IL, working onsite 3 days per week with the expectation of transitioning to full-time onsite in the future. This is a 12-month position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is up to $105/hour + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay).

This role focuses on building robust API and automation testing frameworks, integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines, and improving software quality across multiple applications. The ideal candidate is a hands-on automation engineer with strong Java development skills, expertise in REST API testing, and experience mentoring teams while working in Agile environments.

This role focuses on building robust API and automation testing frameworks, integrating automated testing into CI/CD pipelines, and improving software quality across multiple applications. The ideal candidate is a hands-on automation engineer with strong Java development skills, expertise in REST API testing, and experience mentoring teams while working in Agile environments.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, develop, and enhance automated test frameworks using Java, JavaScript, and modern automation tools.
- Build and maintain API test automation, performance testing, and regression test suites for enterprise applications.
- Develop and integrate automated testing into CI/CD pipelines to improve software quality and delivery speed.
- Collaborate with product owners, developers, and QA teams to create test strategies, troubleshoot issues, and ensure end-to-end system integration.
- Mentor automation engineers, promote testing best practices, and support continuous improvements in quality engineering processes.
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related technical field.
- 8+ years of experience in software engineering or test automation, including extensive experience designing automation frameworks.
- Strong experience with Java, Cucumber, JBehave or other BDD frameworks, REST API testing, SQL, and JMeter.
- Experience developing automated test scripts, test cases, and test data for enterprise applications.
- Strong knowledge of end-to-end system integration testing, web services testing, and Agile software development methodologies.
- Experience with Python, AWS Cloud, and Apigee or other API gateway technologies.
- Experience with CI/CD, Jenkins, Git, DevOps practices, and microservices architecture.
- Experience with load and performance testing, TDD, code reviews, and continuous integration practices.
- Strong documentation skills and the ability to mentor technical teams in automation best practices.
- Experience supporting enterprise-scale software platforms in Agile development environments.
