Job Description

Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for an IT Software Engineer 4. The work will be done hybrid in Peoria, IL or Chicago, IL (Chicago preferred), with an expectation of working onsite 2 days per week. This is a 12-month long-term position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is up to $98/hour + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay).
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced IT Software Engineer to design, develop, and maintain enterprise-scale backend software applications and cloud solutions. This role will work as part of an Agile Scrum team to build high-performance, scalable systems supporting web, cloud, server, and enterprise computing environments. The ideal candidate has deep Java and AWS experience, strong backend development expertise, and a proven track record of designing, developing, testing, and deploying production software using modern cloud architectures and CI/CD practices.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, test, debug, and deploy complex backend software applications using Java and cloud technologies.
  • Develop scalable microservices, RESTful APIs, and enterprise applications utilizing AWS services and cloud-native architectures.
  • Participate in Agile Scrum ceremonies, collaborate on code reviews, and contribute to system architecture and technical design.
  • Build, integrate, test, and deploy software using CI/CD pipelines while supporting system performance, reliability, and security.
  • Troubleshoot complex production issues and collaborate with cross-functional teams to deliver high-quality software solutions.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • 8+ years of professional software development experience (or Master's degree with 6+ years of experience).
  • Strong Java development experience designing and building enterprise applications.
  • At least 3 years of AWS experience, including services such as CloudFormation, ECS, Lambda, Fargate, S3, IAM, and related cloud technologies.
  • Experience with REST APIs, microservices, relational and NoSQL databases, Agile/Scrum development, CI/CD pipelines, and modern testing practices.
  • Strong understanding of data structures, algorithms, software architecture, and backend application development.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Experience with AWS services including SQS, SNS, Kinesis, Elasticsearch, DynamoDB, MongoDB, Cassandra, Redis, MySQL, or Oracle.
  • Experience with Jenkins, Azure DevOps, Selenium, Cucumber, Swagger, Postman, Assertible, and Test-Driven Development (TDD).
  • Experience designing scalable, cloud-native enterprise applications using event-driven architectures and microservices.
