Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for an Electrical Engineer 4 in Mossville, Illinois. This is a 100% onsite position and offers a long-term contract with the potential to lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is up to $57/hour plus full benefits, including vision, dental, health insurance, 401(k), and holiday pay.
Job Summary
We are seeking a hands-on Electrical Engineer with expertise in power electronics to support the design, development, validation, and troubleshooting of high-power conversion systems. This role focuses on designing and testing Gate Driver Boards (GDB), Power Boards, and associated circuitry used in medium-voltage and utility-scale inverter and converter applications. The successful candidate will collaborate with multidisciplinary engineering teams to develop reliable hardware solutions, execute laboratory testing, investigate complex technical issues, and support products throughout the product development lifecycle.
Key Responsibilities
  • Design, develop, analyze, and debug Gate Driver Boards (GDB), Power Boards, interface circuits, protection circuits, and current/voltage sensing circuits.
  • Perform laboratory validation including Double Pulse Testing (DPT), switching characterization, thermal testing, fault testing, commissioning, and protection verification.
  • Conduct root cause analysis of inverter, gate driver, and power module failures while implementing design improvements based on test results.
  • Review schematics and PCB layouts, support component selection, and contribute to Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and Design for Testability (DFT).
  • Collaborate with electrical, controls, validation, mechanical, manufacturing, and supplier teams to support prototype builds, product releases, and continuous product improvement.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering (Associate degree with 10+ years of relevant experience will also be considered).
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in power electronics hardware development (or 3+ years with a Master's degree).
  • Hands-on experience with inverter, converter, motor drives, UPS, battery energy storage (BESS), or renewable energy systems.
  • Strong knowledge of:
    • Gate Driver Board design and validation
    • IGBT and SiC power devices
    • Power converter topologies
    • Protection circuits and thermal management
    • High-voltage/high-current PCB design and debugging
  • Experience using oscilloscopes, differential probes, current probes, thermal cameras, power analyzers, and other laboratory test equipment.
  • Experience performing hardware validation, troubleshooting electrical systems, and conducting root cause analysis.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Master's degree in Electrical Engineering with an emphasis in Power Electronics.
  • Experience with medium-voltage power conversion systems.
  • Familiarity with MATLAB/Simulink, PLECS, LTspice, and Altium Designer.
  • Experience performing Double Pulse Testing (DPT).
  • Knowledge of EMI/EMC mitigation, DFMEA, reliability engineering, and UL/IEC standards.
  • Experience supporting prototype builds, contract manufacturers, and production launches.
