Job Description
Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for an Electrical Engineer 3 – Electronic Component Project Engineer in Mossville, IL. The work will be done onsite full time, 5 days per week, with no hybrid or remote option. This is a 12-month position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is up to $47/hr + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay).
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Electrical Engineer to support the sustainment and lifecycle management of legacy electronic products and systems. This position will focus on electronic component obsolescence, NPI support, component lifecycle management, engineering changes, and validation activities. The engineer will own technical deliverables for assigned components and work closely with suppliers and global engineering teams to maintain product reliability, compliance, and availability. This is an excellent opportunity for an engineer who enjoys solving complex component and supply-chain challenges associated with long-lifecycle electronic products.

Key Responsibilities
- Execute electronic component sustainment and obsolescence mitigation projects, including component risk assessments, alternate-part evaluations, last-time-buy activities, and redesign support.
- Own technical deliverables for assigned electronic components or design families, including engineering analysis, documentation, technical reviews, and lifecycle status.
- Support engineering changes and design control activities, including BOM updates, supplier changes, technical documentation, design deviations, and engineering change approvals.
- Coordinate component and system-level validation testing, including EMC, vibration, environmental, and functional testing, and analyze test results to support engineering decisions.
- Participate in NPI reviews and provide validation coverage, testing results, and technical input to project stakeholders.
- Collaborate with suppliers to address component availability, end-of-life notifications, technical issues, and supply-continuity risks.
- Work closely with engineering, quality, supply chain, manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams to resolve technical and component lifecycle issues.
- Support regulatory and compliance activities, including RoHS, CE, and other applicable standards, while contributing to corrective actions and continuous improvement initiatives.
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a closely related engineering discipline.
- 5+ years of professional experience with a Bachelor’s degree OR 3+ years with a Master’s degree.
- Professional industry experience is required; internships do not count toward the required years of experience.
- Experience working on New Product Introduction (NPI) projects involving electronic products or systems.
- Knowledge of electronic component obsolescence, sustainment, lifecycle management, and/or supply-continuity activities.
- Strong knowledge of electronic systems and hardware components.
- Experience supporting engineering changes, technical documentation, BOM updates, component evaluations, or related design-control activities.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills with the ability to work effectively across engineering teams, suppliers, and other stakeholders.
- Experience supporting legacy or long-lifecycle electronic hardware platforms.
- Experience with electronic control modules, telematics systems, display hardware, or similar embedded/electronic products.
- Familiarity with EMC, vibration, environmental, and functional validation testing and coordination with engineering laboratories.
- Experience evaluating alternate electronic components due to obsolescence, supplier discontinuation, or long lead times.
- Experience working with global and cross-functional engineering teams.
- Familiarity with Agile engineering environments and structured engineering/design-control processes.
- Experience supporting supplier technical reviews, component phase-outs, corrective actions, and product sustainment activities.
