Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for a Director of Business Development. This is a remote position with regular travel required. The role is full-time and permanent. Total compensation is up to $250,000 - $300,000 per year (base + bonus) .Additionally, this role includes a performance-based bonus and participation in a 401(k) and employee stock ownership plan (KSOP), with total employer contributions exceeding 11% of eligible earnings.

The Business Development Director is responsible for building and advancing a long-term strategic opportunity pipeline that supports large-scale adoption of advanced grid modernization and automation solutions. This individual blends technical expertise with commercial insight to identify growth opportunities, anticipate market needs, and guide customers through complex investment decisions.
By leveraging deep knowledge of customer operations, market dynamics, and emerging technologies, the Business Development Director plays a key role in expanding market presence and supporting revenue growth objectives. The role is highly collaborative, working across sales, product, engineering, and leadership teams to ensure customer needs are reflected in solution development and go-to-market strategies.
This position also serves as a senior customer-facing leader, strengthening executive relationships and positioning the organization as a trusted advisor in grid transformation initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
• Continuously assess market size, accessibility, competitive landscape, regulatory developments, and emerging technologies to identify risks and growth opportunities
• Translate market intelligence into actionable business development strategies that guide sales execution and influence product direction
• Cultivate a strong network of industry relationships to stay informed on political, economic, regulatory, environmental, and technological drivers impacting customer decisions
• Lead and facilitate customer workshops designed to uncover current and future operational needs and define measurable business value opportunities
• Identify and prioritize target customers and ecosystem partners based on relationship maturity, financial strength, innovation readiness, and strategic fit
• Partner closely with sales teams to engage customer stakeholders, including executive leadership, to understand priorities and co-develop solution strategies
• Develop and deliver high-level business cases and educational materials that clearly communicate the strategic and financial benefits of grid automation investments
• Quantify and articulate long-term value realization to support major capital investment decisions
• Collaborate with internal stakeholders to define priority accounts and align business development efforts with regional and national sales strategies
• Drive internal alignment around cross-functional pursuit strategies, clarifying roles and responsibilities across teams
• Work with sales enablement to create scenario-based playbooks that help advance customers through the buying journey
• Coordinate with professional services and support teams to ensure customers have the resources and change management support required for successful solution deployment
• Actively engage with product management and development teams to influence roadmaps and represent customer perspectives in steering and governance forums
• Provide structured feedback and business cases for product enhancements or customization based on customer insights
• Oversee customer pilot programs and product trials, ensuring timely execution and clear feedback loops to product teams
• Serve as a strategic advisor to sales during early-stage opportunity development
• Lead complex, high-value business development initiatives within assigned regions or accounts, acting as the primary owner of strategy and execution
• Partner with regional leadership to ensure alignment between business development priorities and sales objectives
• Support solution adoption efforts across multiple regions through collaboration and best-practice sharing
• Present updates on priority initiatives during sales and leadership meetings
• Maintain accurate and timely CRM records, modeling best practices in opportunity and pipeline management
• Represent the organization at industry conferences and events as a subject-matter expert and thought leader
• Provide consultative guidance and training to internal teams to strengthen solution-oriented selling capabilities
• Travel as needed, primarily within the U.S., with occasional international travel
• Build and maintain customer relationships through appropriate engagement during and outside standard business hours

Qualifications
Required
• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Business Administration, or a related discipline
• Valid driver’s license with an acceptable driving record
• Approximately 10 years of progressive experience in senior-level business development, ideally within utilities, energy, or related industries
• Demonstrated success driving large-scale solution adoption through close partnership with sales organizations
• Strong technical understanding of electrical power systems and distribution networks, including medium-voltage equipment and automation technologies
• Proven ability to evaluate customer needs and align them with integrated technical and commercial solutions
• Track record of identifying, prioritizing, and advancing high-impact business opportunities
• Strong customer-centric mindset with the ability to interpret buyer motivations and decision-making behavior
• Advanced analytical, strategic, and financial acumen to support data-driven decisions and complex problem-solving
• Excellent written, verbal, listening, and presentation skills, with the ability to engage audiences at all organizational levels
• Persuasive and confident communicator, comfortable presenting in settings ranging from executive meetings to large industry forums
• Exceptional relationship-building skills, with the ability to foster trust, navigate conflict, and collaborate across diverse teams
• Willingness and ability to travel as required
