Design Engineer 4 (97281-1 & 97283-1)
Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for a Design Engineer 4. The work will be done onsite full-time in Hodges, SC. This is a long-term position (12 months) that can lead to permanent employment with our client. Compensation is up to $60/hr + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay).
Job Summary
We are seeking a Design Engineer to support the design and development of foundry tooling and casting processes in a manufacturing environment. This role focuses on creating and optimizing tooling designs using CAD software, improving product quality, and reducing lead times. The engineer will work closely with cross-functional teams including manufacturing, tooling, and pattern makers to resolve casting issues and support production. This position offers a blend of design, simulation, and hands-on collaboration in both office and shop floor settings.
Key Responsibilities
• Design and develop foundry tooling (patterns and core boxes) using CAD software
• Support tooling RFQs, layout development, and design modifications to improve quality and manufacturability
• Analyze and resolve casting defects through process improvements and design changes
• Perform simulation and modeling (e.g., flow analysis) to optimize casting processes
• Collaborate with engineers, tool designers, and production teams to support tooling build and implementation
• Interpret machining prints, drawings, and GD&T requirements to ensure accurate designs
• Work with suppliers and internal teams to support tooling projects and timelines
Required Qualifications
• Associate or Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or related field
• 5+ years of relevant experience in manufacturing, foundry, or tooling design
• Strong experience with CAD software (Creo preferred)
• Experience with foundry processes (no-bake, cold box, casting)
• Ability to read and interpret machining drawings and GD&T
• Experience with tooling design (patterns, core boxes, layout, clearances, offsets)
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills
Preferred Qualifications
• Experience with casting simulation tools (e.g., SolidCast)
• Knowledge of CNC machining and manufacturing processes
• Experience resolving casting defects and process issues
• Ability to work directly with suppliers and cross-functional teams
• Background in heavy equipment or industrial manufacturing environments
