Job Description
Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for a Cybersecurity Engineer 3 (AI Security Analyst). The position is currently 100% remote, but candidates must be local to one of the following locations: Chicago, IL; Peoria, IL; Dallas, TX; or Broomfield, CO. This is a 12-month position that can lead to permanent employment with our client. The position follows a Monday–Friday, first-shift schedule and may require up to 25% travel. Compensation is $84/hr competitive + full benefits (vision, dental, health insurance, 401k, and holiday pay).
Job Summary
We are seeking an experienced Cybersecurity Engineer / AI Security Analyst to strengthen application security across modern software, API, and cloud environments. This role will perform both AI-assisted and traditional security assessments, validate and prioritize vulnerabilities, and work directly with development and DevOps teams to drive remediation through verified closure. The engineer will help embed security throughout the SDLC while improving repository security coverage, reducing software supply-chain risk, and leveraging AI security tools responsibly. This is a highly collaborative role working across multiple applications, development teams, and technology stacks.

The engineer will help embed security throughout the SDLC while improving repository security coverage, reducing software supply-chain risk, and leveraging AI security tools responsibly. This is a highly collaborative role working across multiple applications, development teams, and technology stacks.
Key Responsibilities
- Perform application, API, cloud workload, repository, and infrastructure security assessments using AI-assisted and traditional security methodologies.
- Execute and manage SAST, SCA, secret scanning, dependency analysis, source-code analysis, and other security scanning activities.
- Analyze and triage vulnerabilities based on exploitability, severity, business impact, compensating controls, and remediation requirements.
- Drive vulnerabilities from discovery through remediation, retesting, evidence collection, and verified closure.
- Conduct hands-on manual security testing using tools such as Burp Suite, browser developer tools, API testing platforms, GitHub Advanced Security, and CodeQL.
- Review and modify Java and Python application code to validate vulnerabilities and support secure remediation.
- Identify and reduce security debt, vulnerable dependencies, outdated libraries, open-source risks, and software supply-chain exposure.
- Apply OWASP Top 10, API Security Top 10, authentication/authorization, secure coding, cloud security, and IAM principles.
- Use AI-assisted development and security tools responsibly to accelerate vulnerability analysis, threat modeling, code review, remediation guidance, and documentation.
- Develop security metrics, coverage reporting, dashboards, and portfolio-level insights for technical and executive stakeholders.
- Partner with architects, developers, DevOps engineers, product owners, and business stakeholders to resolve security issues and remove remediation blockers.
- Participate in Agile/Scrum ceremonies and manage security-related user stories, tasks, defects, and initiatives.
- Coach application teams, share security best practices, and promote a security-first engineering culture.
- Bachelor’s and/or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Cybersecurity, Information Systems, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Approximately 5–7 years of hands-on Application Security and/or DevSecOps experience.
- Strong understanding of Secure SDLC, DevSecOps, Agile, and Scrum methodologies.
- Hands-on experience with Burp Suite, GitHub Advanced Security, CodeQL, SAST, SCA, secret scanning, dependency analysis, and CI/CD security tooling.
- Ability to read, analyze, test, and modify production application code using Java and Python for vulnerability validation and remediation.
- Strong knowledge of OWASP Top 10, API Security Top 10, secure coding principles, authentication/authorization, and common attack techniques.
- Experience with cloud security, Identity and Access Management (IAM), and modern application architectures.
- Hands-on ability to perform vulnerability triage, including assessment of exploitability, business impact, severity, compensating controls, and remediation options.
- Familiarity with the safe and effective use of AI-assisted development and cybersecurity tools.
- Strong communication, stakeholder-management, presentation, documentation, and problem-solving skills.
- Experience building security metrics, repository coverage reporting, vulnerability dashboards, and executive-level security reporting.
- Experience remediating security issues through code fixes, configuration changes, infrastructure updates, and compensating controls.
- Strong software supply-chain and open-source dependency security experience.
- Experience performing threat modeling and AI-assisted security/code reviews.
- Ability to operate independently across multiple application teams, portfolios, and technology stacks.
- Experience coaching development teams and promoting secure engineering practices.
