Applications Engineer - Milling
Cullerton Group has a new opportunity for an Application Engineer in Huntersville, NC. The work will be done onsite and require up to 50% travel. This is a permanent job. Compensation is $90 - $120K/yr base salary (based on experience) + bonus and full benefits.
Position Overview
The Applications Engineer - Milling is responsible for delivering high-quality applications support and technical training to customers, distributors, and internal sales teams. This position plays a key role in machine demonstrations, process optimization, technical troubleshooting, and customer success initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
• Design and deliver training programs for dealers, customers, and internal personnel focused on the safe and efficient operation of milling machines and related equipment.
• Perform test cuts and evaluate machine performance, identifying opportunities to improve results and reduce process deficiencies.
• Conduct machining studies, production evaluations, test cuts, and machine demonstrations.
• Support pre-sale activities, including customer demonstrations, trade shows, and open house events. Responsibilities include equipment sourcing, setup, operation, and customer interaction.
• Work closely with sales personnel to provide timely applications engineering support and technical expertise.
• Evaluate RFQs and turnkey manufacturing solutions for technical feasibility and application requirements.
• Provide technical support to customers by phone and other communication channels, diagnose issues, and determine the most effective resolution path.
• Maintain demonstration facilities, machines, tooling, fixtures, and equipment in a professional and operational condition. Recommend upgrades and additions as needed.
• Create, maintain, and distribute technical application documentation for customers, dealers, and internal teams.
• Attend meetings, training sessions, seminars, and industry events to remain current on technologies, products, and industry developments.
• Perform additional duties and special projects as assigned by management.

Education and Experience
• Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university.
• Three to five years of experience in high-speed milling, toolmaking, precision manufacturing, or a related field.
• Equivalent combinations of education and experience will also be considered.
Technical Skills
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
• Experience with CAM programming software such as Turbosoft+, Concepts NREC, Siemens NX, ProE, SolidWorks, Mastercam, Hypermill, EdgeCAM, or PowerMill.
• Advanced knowledge of Heidenhain and Siemens CNC controls.
• Experience with ERP systems such as Great Plains or similar business software is a plus.
Communication Skills
• Ability to read, analyze, and interpret technical procedures, processes, reports, and business documents.
• Ability to effectively communicate technical information to customers, employees, and management.
• Experience developing technical reports, documentation, and training materials.
Mathematical and Analytical Skills
• Ability to calculate percentages, discounts, ratios, volumes, and other standard manufacturing metrics.
• Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting capabilities with the ability to interpret complex technical information and apply sound judgment.
Physical Requirements
• Ability to occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds.
• Frequent standing, walking, reaching, handling equipment, and performing hands-on technical activities.
• Ability to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, and communicate effectively.
• Must possess close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.
Travel Requirements
• Up to 50% travel to customer and company locations throughout the United States and internationally.
• Occasional irregular work hours may be required to support customers, demonstrations, trade shows, and business needs.
Work Environment
• Manufacturing and demonstration center environment with moderate to loud noise levels.
• Occasional exposure to moving mechanical equipment, airborne particles, humidity, and other industrial conditions.
• Compliance with all safety procedures and equipment requirements is expected.
